If clicking Play on the Roblox website does nothing, find out where the process stops. The website, the browser’s app-opening prompt, and the installed Roblox application are separate stages. Check those stages in order before downloading the installer again. An installation prompt appearing repeatedly does not necessarily mean that no installation exists.
Roblox’s official launch instructions explain that a browser may ask which application should open the link; choose Roblox when the prompt comes from the genuine Roblox website. The instructions below focus on diagnosing that handoff.
Start from a clean, recognizable page
Type the Roblox website address yourself or use a trusted bookmark. Open an ordinary experience page while signed into your intended account. Close duplicate Roblox launch tabs so that you know which click produces a prompt.
Click Play once and watch for changes. A download notification, a browser dialog, a taskbar icon, or a briefly appearing app window are different outcomes. Write down the one you see. Do not accept instructions from an unrelated pop-up that asks you to install a launcher, browser extension, or โverificationโ program.
Branch one: the page or Play button does not respond
If the website itself is incomplete or unresponsive, test whether another Roblox page opens. Also check whether an unrelated ordinary website works. You are establishing scope, not proving that every part of your connection is healthy.
Roblox’s connection guidance recommends an updated browser and a different supported browser as comparisons; it also notes that extensions can interfere. If you already have another browser, try the same experience there. Keep the device and network unchanged.
If only one browser fails, record that finding. Review recently changed extensions individually and restore anything that did not affect the result. Avoid resetting all browser settings immediately. That would erase useful differences and might disrupt saved sessions for school or work.
Branch two: a prompt asks to open an application
Read the prompt carefully and confirm that Roblox is the application it names. A browser permission is a decision about opening an installed program, so it should match the action you just initiated. If the expected application is missing, cancel the prompt and check whether Roblox is installed in your computer’s application list.
If it is absent, follow our installation guide. If it is present, try opening the app normally from the system’s application list. This does not guarantee that a particular browser link will work; it simply tells you whether the app can start independently.
Branch three: the app appears and then closes
At this point, the browser has already handed over to an application. Further browser permission changes may be irrelevant. Record how long the window remains and whether it shows an error.
On Windows, continue with the crash guide. If the application stays open but cannot connect to an experience, preserve that connection message instead. These paths need different evidence, so avoid describing every failure as โPlay does nothing.โ
Handle an endless installation loop carefully
Look at the completed downloads before clicking another install button. Downloading a file and running its installer are different steps. Check whether the installer actually finished, whether it reported an error, and whether the app is now visible in the system’s application list.
If the installer repeatedly fails, note the exact failure and use the reinstall workflow. Keep the files you need for other applications untouched. There is no reason to clear the entire Downloads folder or delete unrelated browser profiles.
What to report if the handoff still fails
A useful report says which browser and operating system you use, whether another browser behaves differently, whether Roblox opens independently, and the last visible stage before failure. Include a screenshot of the relevant prompt with personal information cropped out.
Once you have those answers, stop changing settings at random. A consistent description makes it easier to distinguish a browser-specific permission problem from an installation failure or an app crash, and gives official support a clearer place to begin.
