How to Install and Play Roblox on PC or Mac

Starting Roblox on a computer involves two parts: choosing a game on the website and opening it in the Roblox application. A browser page staying open does not necessarily mean installation failed. The website and the player handle different parts of the process.

This guide covers the official website installation route for Windows and Mac. It does not cover phones, consoles, or virtual-reality headsets. Check the section that matches your problem before downloading the installer again.

1. Check that your computer is supported

Roblox currently lists 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 for Windows computers, and macOS 10.13 or later for Macs. Linux is not officially supported. On Windows, the graphics hardware must support DirectX 10 feature level or higher. These are compatibility requirements, not a promise that every game will run smoothly. Before installing, confirm your operating-system version in your computer’s settings. If you use a school or work computer, its administrator may control software installation. Ask the person who manages it for help rather than changing security restrictions yourself.

2. Install Roblox from the official website

  1. Open a supported, up-to-date browser and visit Roblox.
  2. Sign in to your Roblox account.
  3. Open the page for a game you want to try.
  4. Select Play.
  5. Follow the installation prompt for Roblox Player and complete the installer.

After installation, return to the game page and choose Play again. Your browser may ask which application should open the link. Choose Roblox and confirm. If the browser offers to remember that choice, you can use it to avoid the same application-selection prompt next time. Official installation instructions.

Keep the first game simple while checking your setup. The aim is to confirm that the application opens and you can move around before adjusting several settings at once.

3. Know which Roblox application you need

Roblox Player runs games. Roblox Studio is used to create experiences. You do not need to install Studio just to play. If a tutorial sends you into editing tools when your goal is joining a game, return to the player installation steps. Roblox’s Player and Studio guide.

Do not add an unofficial browser extension as an installation shortcut. Roblox states that it does not publish official browser extensions. Enter your login information only on the official website or official app login screen. Roblox account-safety guidance.

4. If the game opens but feels slow

Different symptoms need different checks. Choppy visuals can indicate graphics strain, while players jumping unpredictably around the world can indicate a slow or unstable connection.

For choppy graphics, open the in-game menu with Esc, go to Settings, turn automatic graphics quality off, and lower the graphics level. Lower settings reduce visual detail but can reduce the work your computer has to do. Close other demanding applications you do not need. Roblox lag troubleshooting.

Change one thing at a time, then try moving around again. This makes it easier to tell whether the adjustment helped. Avoid purchasing a new computer based on one slow session; first compare another game and a later session.

5. If you still cannot join

Check the Roblox Status page through Roblox’s support guidance before assuming the installation is broken. For further help, note your device, username, the exact error text, and the point at which the process stops. Roblox asks for the affected username, device, and help category when contacting support.
