You can change a Roblox display name for free in Settings → Account Info → Change Display Name. Enter the new name, save, and refresh to review it. Some accounts label this field “Name.” Roblox currently allows one display-name change every seven days. Roblox: Changing Your Display Name.
If your goal is simply a different name above your profile or in the experience, check this field before opening the username purchase flow. The two controls serve different purposes.
Make sure you are changing the intended name
A username identifies the account; changing it requires Robux. Roblox: Changing Your Username. A display-name edit is the more relevant choice when you want to update the name people see without changing that account identifier.
Think about the outcome you want. A new nickname for friends is a display-name decision. A different account identifier for login and discovery is a username decision. If you are unsure, take a moment to compare the labels in Account Info instead of committing to whichever pencil icon you see first.

Choose the spelling before pressing Save
- Check the account currently open, especially if you share a device.
- Write the proposed display name somewhere private and read it once.
- Check for unintended spacing or characters that make it difficult to recognize.
- Return to the display-name control and enter the intended text.
- Review the saved profile name rather than assuming the change completed.
There is no need for an elaborate naming formula. A short name friends can read and spell is often more useful than one built from visually similar symbols. Think about how it sounds when spoken aloud: could someone reasonably type what you just said?
Avoid adding private details to make a name feel unique. You can create something memorable without including a full real name, school, home address, or contact information. This is an editorial privacy recommendation, not a claim about every name the platform will accept.
Why the change might not go through
Roblox filters display names under its rules. Names must meet those rules, and they are not unique: another player can have the same display name. Roblox: Changing Your Display Name.
Read the message presented by the form. A waiting-period message is different from a rejected-name message. If you recently changed the field, repeated submissions will not make the waiting period easier to understand. If the proposed text is rejected, choose a straightforward alternative rather than trying to disguise the same unsuitable phrase.
Do not pay someone who claims they can remove the display-name waiting period. A simple cosmetic preference does not justify giving another person access to account settings.
The old name still appears somewhere
First confirm that the change was saved in the correct account. Refresh the profile view, then compare the label you are looking at with the one you edited. You may be reading the username while expecting the display name.

If a game displays something unexpected, record exactly where you saw it. “My profile shows the new display name, but this particular screen still shows another label” is more informative than assuming the entire account change failed.
Make it easy for friends to recognize you
Display names can be shared by several players. Roblox: Changing Your Display Name. Help existing friends distinguish your account using the identifier they already know.
Keep that communication simple. There is no need to post account-setting screenshots or reveal private details to prove a cosmetic change.
