Roblox Parental Controls: A Practical Setup for Families

Start with a separate parent account, link the correct child account, and review four decisions: what your child can play, who they can communicate with, when they can play, and how purchases will work. You do not need to decide every setting in one sitting. Begin with the boundaries you already use at home, then check how those choices appear on your child’s device.

Roblox’s parent dashboard supports controls and activity insights through a linked account. Available tools depend on the child account; a parent login is separate from the child’s login. Roblox: Parental Controls FAQ

Prepare the two accounts first

Write down the child’s actual username before starting. If siblings use the same tablet, open each profile together so you know which account belongs to whom. A familiar avatar is useful context, but use the account name to confirm your choice. Decide which adult will handle permission requests and where that person will keep account recovery information.

From the child account, the documented starting point is Settings, Parental Controls, then Add parent. Complete the official verification and linking prompts. Roblox: Parents: How to Link Your Childโ€™s Account

Use our parent-account linking walkthrough if you need help with that stage. Once linked, return to your own account before making changes. Keep a simple note of the initial settings so you can compare them with later choices without relying on memory.

Choose games by more than their cover image

Open Content restrictions in the selected child’s parental settings. Content maturity controls and individual game controls address different decisions: a general content level and access to a particular game. Roblox: Parental Controls Overview

Ask your child to show you two games they actually want to play. Read the descriptions together and ask what a normal session involves. A building game, a competitive match, and a social space can raise different questions even when their thumbnails look equally cheerful. Focus on the activities and interactions your child describes rather than the popularity of the game.

Roblox Kids and Roblox Select introduce account-based game selections, and regional requirements can affect available features. Another family’s settings screen may therefore differ from yours. Roblox: What are Roblox Kids and Roblox Select?

When a requested game is unavailable, read the explanation on the child’s account before changing anything. Treat permission requests as individual decisions. You can say yes to one activity, suggest a different game, or postpone a decision until you have looked at it together.

Make communication rules concrete

Before changing communication options, agree on a few examples: what to do when someone asks for a real name, invites the child somewhere else, or repeatedly sends unwanted messages. Ask your child to demonstrate how they would leave an uncomfortable situation. That short practice is more useful than asking them to remember an abstract instruction to be careful.

Review the Communication settings actually offered on the account, one option at a time. Read the explanatory text instead of assuming that two similarly named switches cover the same conversation. If an option requires an additional permission or eligibility step, complete only the legitimate process you understand and want to approve.

Fit time limits around a usable routine

The parent dashboard includes daily screen-time limits and activity information. See the dedicated instructions for the current menu path. Roblox: Managing Screen Time

Choose a stopping routine as well as a number. For example, agree that the child checks remaining time before starting another round and tells friends when they need to leave. Review the first week as an experiment: was the limit clear, and did the timing work around meals or homework? Our screen-time guide helps interpret the activity view.

Review the purchase route separately

Roblox’s monthly spending setting does not cover gift-card redemption and does not apply to every console purchase route. Check the payment device’s controls as well. Roblox: Monthly Spending Limits

Agree who may approve a purchase and whether a gift card is a one-off present or part of an existing budget. Keep receipts in one place. A child who can explain what they intend to buy gives you a better basis for a decision than an urgent request to approve a payment screen.

Return to the setup after a real session

Ask what was enjoyable, confusing, or uncomfortable. Check whether your chosen rules were easy to follow. Change one setting for a clear reason, then confirm the result together. For the game-access part of that conversation, use our guide to content maturity labels. The aim is a setup your family understands well enough to use consistently.
