How to Change Your Roblox Username and Check the Tradeoffs

Change your username through Settings → Account Info → Change Username, using your current password. The change costs Robux; review the amount shown before buying. Roblox: Changing Your Username.

This guide is about the account’s username, not just a new nickname. Decide which result you want before committing to a purchase.

Would a display-name change do the job?

Roblox offers a separate free display-name control. Roblox: Changing Your Display Name. If you simply want a new visible name, start with our display-name guide and compare the two fields.

A useful way to decide is to write the change as a sentence: “I want people to see a different nickname” or “I want this account to have a different username.” If the first sentence describes your goal, there may be no need to change the account identifier at all.

Prepare the name and account details

Check that you are signed into the right account and can supply its current password. Read the proposed spelling outside the purchase dialog first. Pay particular attention to characters that look alike and to a name you would find awkward to say aloud.

Consider where you have already used the current username: a private account register, a creator profile description, or a way existing friends recognize you. Make a small update list for information you control. This is preparation, not a promise about how every external service will react to the change.

Understand the restrictions before buying

Roblox says you cannot take another account’s username or swap names with an alternate account. Returning to a previous username still requires Robux, and simple capitalization changes do not receive a discount. Previous usernames remain visible through Roblox’s account and search surfaces. Roblox: Changing Your Username.

Do not build your plan around transferring a desirable name from one account to another. Likewise, do not assume a new username erases the old one. If privacy is your reason for changing it, review what the official page says about name history before spending anything.

Confirm one deliberate change

  1. Open the username-change control on the intended account.
  2. Enter the exact new spelling and satisfy the requested account check.
  3. Read any availability or validation message.
  4. Review the displayed cost and final name together.
  5. Complete the purchase only when both match your intention.
  6. Review Account Info afterward and update your private account record.

A confirmation dialog is a final checkpoint, not a place to improvise several new ideas. If you spot a typo or have doubts about the name, back out and decide first. A correction later is another change to consider, not something to assume will be free.

Sign in after the change

Roblox says you can use the new username with the existing password after a successful change. Roblox: Changing Your Username. The change does not require you to invent a new account or restart the account’s history.

If you normally sign in with email, Roblox documents that option for verified addresses. When an address corresponds to multiple usernames and Roblox asks for a username instead, use the specific account’s current identifier. Roblox: Logging In with Your Email. Our username lookup guide helps distinguish that identifier from a display name.

An error or security wait interrupts the change

Read the actual message before retrying. Availability, an incorrect password, and a security check are different issues. Do not use a third-party “name changer” to get past an account prompt.

Roblox also documents security delays for some sensitive actions. If the platform explicitly shows a Delayed Action timer, follow that flow; this guide does not assume every username edit receives one. Roblox: Delayed Actions. Keep the exact wording if you need help.

For an unresolved purchase or account-setting problem, use the support-contact guide. Describe the intended name, the stage that failed, and what the account now shows. Never include your password in the explanation.
