CanCollide controls physical blocking; Transparency controls appearance. A visible floor can be passable, and an invisible part can still block a doorway. This practice exercise lets you separate the two settings before changing your main project.
Set up one test barrier
In a separate Baseplate project, insert a block named DoorwayTest. Use Size 8, 8, 1, Position 0, 4, -12 and Anchored = true. Keep the normal spawn away from the block and a clear walking approach on each side. Select DoorwayTest in Explorer to make sure you are changing the same object each time.
The numerical placement is an original practice setup. Robloxโs part reference explains the settings used here. This exercise assumes ordinary character collision and no custom scripts or collision-group rules.
Compare four property combinations
For each row, set the values in edit mode, start a character Test and walk straight into the same area. Stop before making the next change.
| Case | Transparency | CanCollide | What you are checking |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 0 | true | Visible barrier blocks the character. |
| B | 0 | false | Visible barrier can be passed through. |
| C | 1 | true | Invisible barrier still blocks the route. |
| D | 1 | false | Invisible part does not physically block the route. |
These are expected outcomes to compare with your observations, not a claim that Qrajo ran the project. Record a different result instead of forcing it into the table. Return Transparency to 0 when you finish so the practice object is easy to find.
Apply the result to a floor
If your character falls through a stationary platform, inspect the platformโs actual child Part and its CanCollide value. If the platform itself drops, investigate Anchored instead. A decorative mesh can conceal a different object that supplies the collision surface.
Use a copy of the problem area with a safety floor below it. Try a plain block alongside the suspect floor and approach both in the same way. A working plain block narrows the next question to the suspect objectโs geometry or rules; it does not prove every setting elsewhere is correct.
Find a hidden obstruction
In your practice copy, make one suspected transparent object visible and repeat the blocked movement. Note the objectโs full Explorer path. Do not remove every invisible object: some are intentionally used as boundaries or triggers.
CanCollide is not a complete description of touch events or raycasts. A project with collision groups also needs its group relationships checked. Consult the BasePart API reference when a plain-part comparison does not explain the result.
Keep a repeatable bug note
Record: โObject: __. Approach direction: __. Transparency: __. CanCollide: __. Anchored: __. Expected movement: __. Actual movement: __.โ Repeat from both sides after fixing the immediate issue. Then use the normal spawn and check the complete route; a local fix can still leave the entrance blocked.
Updated September 22, 2026: Added a four-case collision experiment and a reproducible bug-report format. Official references were checked for this revision.
