First identify what “chat not working” means on your screen. Is the chat control absent, does a typed message fail to send, do words become hashtags, or is only voice affected? Start with that symptom rather than changing every privacy and microphone setting at once.

If the text-chat button is missing
Check the account’s own communication settings and any eligibility message. If the page asks for a genuine age check or parental permission, complete the official process only if appropriate. A missing control is not an invitation to enter a different birthday or use another person’s identity.
Then compare another experience where you expect chat to be supported. If the control appears there, the original game’s interface or configuration is the more useful place to investigate. If it is absent everywhere, focus on the account and its settings before trying game-specific fixes.

If the box opens but text does not send
Click or tap directly in the chat input before typing. On a computer, make sure the game rather than another window has focus. Try a short, ordinary gameplay message and note whether you see an error, a loading state, or no visible response. Do not repeatedly submit personal information as a test.
Experience Chat normally opens with the chat icon or the slash key on a keyboard when it is available. Hashtags indicate filtering, rather than a missing keyboard or broken connection. Roblox: Experience Chat
If ordinary messages fail in several experiences, check whether other online actions are also slow or unsuccessful. Close and reopen the app once, then repeat the same small test. Keep the comparison consistent; changing the account, network, and game simultaneously makes the result difficult to interpret.
If words become hashtags or change
Do not keep altering the spelling to push the same blocked message through. Restate a legitimate gameplay instruction in simple language, or leave it unsent. For example, a short direction about an in-game location is more useful than a message containing contact details or an argument.
Roblox describes filtering and automatic safe rephrasing within Experience Chat. Some accounts may also see approved quick phrases or chat summaries, with availability varying by region. Roblox: Experience Chat
Treat a summary as context rather than an exact quotation of another person. If you are trying to understand a disagreement, avoid attributing words to someone solely from a generated summary. Ask for clarification through the communication options legitimately available to you.
If friend chat works differently
The chat used outside a game has its own account requirements and settings. Roblox is also changing the Party tab to Chat for some users by region. Check the current labels instead of assuming a missing old tab means the feature was removed. Roblox: How to message and chat with friends
Confirm whether you are trying to message one friend, use a group conversation, or speak in the current experience. Test the intended feature directly. If you can join a friend but cannot message them, leave the working join setup alone; our joining-friends guide covers that separate process.
If only voice is affected
Voice requires eligible age-checked access, a supported experience, and an available regional rollout. Phone verification alone is not the current route to voice eligibility. Voice controls are offered inside supported experiences. Roblox: How do I turn on Voice Chat?
Once those conditions are satisfied, inspect the selected microphone, device permission, and mute state. If the microphone works in another application, note that result. If it does not, start with the device’s audio setup. Avoid granting microphone access to unrelated websites that promise to unlock Roblox voice.
When to stop troubleshooting and report the problem
Record which type of chat failed, the exact message, the device, and whether one or several experiences are affected. State which account requirement or setting you already checked. This gives a support request a useful starting point without including sign-in secrets.
